Short Interview: When an ACE author writes dark spicy books!

Dear Readers,

you liked the last interview on Discoveries of an ACE and wanted me to interview more interesting people from the ACE community. While we had the sweet, sex-repulsed Khaled last time, we are going to the other end of the spectrum this time. How do you like a fellow ACE who likes to write dark erotica fantasy books?

Discoveries of an Ace: Hi Rebecca, could you please introduce yourself to the readers

Rebecca: Hi,  I am an older woman living in the States who discovered I was Ace about ten years ago. I work for the state of NY with challenged high-behavior individuals and am a writer in my off time.

Discoveries of an Ace: Where on the ACE spectrum are you?

Rebecca: I don’t know if it is an older thing, but I’ve never gone for the ton of descriptions and definitions that have come out over the years that many people embrace. I find nothing wrong with it, I simply don’t embrace them myself. As for where I am, I do not enjoy having sex. My attraction to people is based upon common interests and a sense of humor.

Discoveries of an Ace: Is writing your profession?

Rebecca: I would like for it to be. I’ve been accepted for publication and hopefully, that will gain me some recognition. But I’m realistic. There are very few Kings and Rowlings in the world, I won’t be quitting my day job, lol.

Discoveries of an Ace: Wow that´s great! What kind of books do you write?

Rebecca: I write dark erotica fantasy and the book I just finished deals with BDSM gay/lesbian themes. My stories include sexual relationships.

Discoveries of an Ace: What or who inspires you to write?

Rebecca: I grew up on Stephen King which lends a dark air to my stories and his book “On Writing” is one of the best writing guides out there. Other than that, Robert McCammon, Andrea Gibson, and Mary Oliver poetry.

Discoveries of an Ace: When did you start writing?

Rebecca: When I was around 11 or 12, I think.

Discoveries of an Ace: What’s the perfect time to write for you?

Rebecca: When I am not being pestered by other people or my dogs, lol.

Discoveries of an Ace: Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Rebecca: It depends on how well the writing goes. if I can really get into a scene I am creating, then I find it energizing. If I have constant interruptions or I’m struggling with a character/scene, then it’s exhausting.

Discoveries of an Ace: You also edit and help others to improve their writing. How do you deal with edits to your texts?

Rebecca: As in someone editing my own work? I don’t have a problem with it. I’m in the process of cutting out massive amounts of wordage in the fantasy work I’m trying to ready for publishing. But…it took a while to get there. Writers don’t like their babies torn apart. It took a while to develop a thicker skin. When I edit others’ work, I try to find something positive when I’m suggesting that something be reworded or left out entirely.

Discoveries of an Ace: What do you enjoy more editing or writing yourself?

Rebecca: Definitely writing.

Discoveries of an Ace: What’s your favorite story that you have ever written? ( a story that you enjoyed writing, not the one that was received the best by others)

Rebecca: My story The Twiceborn was started well over 20 years ago. Then I set it aside for many years, started it up on Wattpad then stopped again when school and writing got to be too much. I picked it up again after about a 4-year hiatus and finally finished it. The ending was very bittersweet for me. I’ve carried that manuscript everywhere with me over the years.

Discoveries of an Ace: As a writer, do you read a lot yourself and if yes, what genre do you prefer?

Rebecca: I don’t read as much as I used to. I read different genres depending on my mood. Right now I’m reading true crime, I like the psychological aspect of it all. The “why do people do what they do?” factor. And sometimes I’ll read what I call “mind candy.” Jackie Collins and her Lucky Santangelo series is good for that.

Discoveries of an Ace: I can relate to reading true crime stories. The psychology behind it is very interesting!

Where do you publish your texts?

Rebecca: Right now, The Twiceborn will be published through Tor publishing once I’m done editing. My other book, Meet What They Send You, I haven’t had my agent query publishing houses for that one yet. At the moment, they are both up on Wattpad if you care to check them out.

Wow, congratulations on getting your book published! That´s amazing!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions!

I already started reading „The TwiceBorn“ and this is very interesting for ACEs in the Demi or Grey area of the spectrum!
