What is cupiosexuality?

  • by

Dear Readers,

I recently talked within the community and cupiosexual came up as being a part of the sex-favorable side of the ACE spectrum.

What is cupiosexuality?

Cupiosexual is someone who doesn’t experience any sexual attraction but still desires a sexual relationship. It can also be used by people who sometimes feel sexual attraction and don’t feel it yet. Or felt sexual attraction at some point but lost it and want to keep being with the person even without sexual attraction.

That sounds confusing? I can understand that.

It can mean for example: A Demi-Ace might date someone they are not sexually attracted to because they expect that they will develop feelings for that person, so they keep dating them. It can also be used if a Fray-Ace loses their sexual attraction but continues to date the person.

Why would you consider a sexual relationship without any sexual attraction?

Well, for some a sexual relationship can feel good and can provide physical relief. It can be seen equally to running, swimming, or whatever else you like to do to feel good and relaxed afterward. But it can also be seen as a bonding experience and some people might enjoy physical closeness. Another reason might be that they feel romantic attraction and may enjoy emotional intimacy together with the experience of pleasure.

So there are plenty of reasons to want a physical relationship.

Do you identify as cupiosexual? And if yes, what is your reason for wanting a physical relationship?

Yours, ACE
